Polly Gilmore is an Akron, Ohio-based fiber artist. She has been interested in cloth and sewing from a very young age, and learned quilting from a friend as a young mother in Michigan. Although she started with traditional quilting, she quickly moved on to more contemporary expressions of the media while living in Sarasota, Florida. Today, her wall hangings use fiber in conjunction with other materials to create complex layers and structures.
Several years ago, Polly and her husband also took up glass-blowing at Hale Farm, a local living-history museum with an 19th-century replica glass house. Her glass work reflects the same contemporary aesthetic and layered feeling found in her fiber work.
Polly is an active member of three northeast Ohio fiber groups: Contemporary Fiber Artists of Cuyahoga Valley, CoCA (Contemporary Cloth Artists) Cleveland and the Northeast Ohio Quilter's Network, as well as Artists of Rubber City, the American Quilter’s Society, the Surface Design Association, Ohio Designers and Craftsmen and the Glass Arts Society. She holds a BA in English from William Smith College in Geneva, NY.
